Negative. You won't be able to keep IPODs and such with you during basic. You can bring them, but will likely have to keep them locked up until you're done. It all depends on your command. By all means, bring an IPOD to listen to on the plane on the way there, as well as a cell phone and charger. When you get to make weekly calls home (again depending on command) you'll likely get to use your own cell phone. They'll have everyone put their cell phones and chargers in a marked bag and pass them out when it's time for calls. I've heard of certain drill sergeants letting privates use their electronics on Sundays, if they've been good, etc.
Long story short, yes bring them, and you'll be told whether or not you can use them when you get there.

it is best to memorize your favorite songs and sing, hum, play them over in your head while you are there.

When my recruits did well, I'd let them listen to music on the company boom box in the evenings on a set schedule that accomodated all musical tastes.
But then, I was a 'nice' guy compared to many DIs!
They always knew when I was going to cycle them - that's when I played something from my Grateful Dead collection.
