can you help me out on how to sync music onto my phone, "The Dare"?

I own the Verizon phone "The Dare". im trying to sync music onto it but its saying: "Please check your cable connection to the PC". But clearly, i've connected my phone to the PC through the USB port. can you please help me on what to do? anything will help!
