The conference was organised and "sponsored" by the Heartland Institute, a U.S. think tank that in preceding years received substantial funding from Exxon for its work downplaying the significance of global warming. In other words, these are people with degrees who were paid to say that fossil fuels were good for the environment whether they actually believed it or not.
