Can you help me figure out what type of colorblind my boyfriend is?

I'm really curious to see how he sees the world, but I was a little confused by all the different types of colorblindness can occur. I know this won't be a 100% accurate answer, but humor me. :P First of all, he says his favorite color is red. He can't really tell the difference if I hold up a pink pen and a red one, and purples and oranges look mostly red to him too. I held up a blue pencil and he had no problem seeing that it was blue. He says no colors are dark or dimmed, it's just that oranges, pinks, and some purples look red to him. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, and I know this question is a little weird. Haha
 
the vast majority of color deficient males are red/green color-deficient. so reds, greens, pinks, etc all look the same or very similar. probably sort of grey-ish (but nobody *really* knows)

blues, yellows, etc they see fine just like you
