can you help me figure out what the bike shop put in my exhaust pipe?

hi this is a kx250 with a new expansion chamber and i just took the pipe off to see this piece of rubber between the cylinder and the pipe, the rubber thing looks like : rubber with layers of metal "circles" that would kinda look like a v if you cut it in half. PLEASE HELP ME DETERMINE WHAT THIS IS
