Mine is only in my left back hip/buttock. I don't have the pain that goes down the leg. After having it 1.5 days, I took an aleve, hot bath and put on icy-hot patch. After sleep, I felt so much better. But in 2 days it came back. But I can't find anything relating to sciatica that doesn't mention the leg/foot pain also.

catlover11: Sometimes you can get tingling in your hand and arms from this. This was just on Dr. Oz recently. Most times it is in your legs because of the pressure on the spinal column and discs. Do you see a chiropractor? If not, try seeing if you can get adjusted to fix it.

Catlover, when I first got it, it was only in the same area as yours. It gradually started working its way down all the way to my toes. This took a year or so to reach that point in my case. Plain old steroid shots at my doctor's would help so much & last a good 6 months back then. After years of taking them, they quit working & I developed an allergic reaction to them but I think that's not common.

I would advise against seeing a chiropractor until you know what is causing your pain and whether there is spinal nerve involvement. Many problems cannot be seen by X-ray imaging and a chiropractor can cause more harm than good when there is spinal nerve involvement.

Pain can derive from any of the spinal nerve roots. Depending on how badly the nerve is compressed or irritated, pain can stay just in the back or occur at any place along the path of the nerve. And it doesn't need to run the full length of the nerve. It may just appear at some point along that particular nerve.
