Can you go to jail for not paying back a payday loan?

I have paid so much interest that it more than covered the loan. I was in and out of the hospital and could not afford to pay anymore.
The payday loan place said they were calling the police and pressing fraud charges because it was over $500.00. Can they do this and is it legal ?

yes my mom got threatened by them and so she decided she would pay monthly like 25 a month, and they kept telling her they would take her to court but legally they cant since shes paying them back slowly but surely see if you can do that...
any money is better than none and just send them a money order

There's no one who send to jail for not paying back a debt. The lenders can't do that because borrowers have certain rights and they can't just threatened them and do what they want in order to pay back the loan.

I know the payday loans are a scam. You may be a victim. This kind of loan is marked as illegal in most states in the US. They cannot send you to jail because you have certain rights and you should tell them that.
