Can you get in trouble with the law for making prank calls?

My friends and I do it all of the time at our slumber parties most of the time we will call some married woman and tell her we are having an affair with her husband or call and ask for him and if he 's not there leave a message with her saying he left his wallet at our house or some other thing but last Saturday we had forgot to dial *67 before the number and the woman called back and my mom got mad and told us to stop or we could end up in jail. Is she right or was she just trying to scare us.
 
Lol. No your mom is just trying to scare you. You can't go to jail for that. Funny prank!
 
Yea, u can get in touble with the law. lol though, you just made my day. I might hav 2 use that 1
 
HELL YEAH.... stop before your calls get traced and the inforcements come after you... happend to me before... it was all fun in games, but even if you call private, there's always away to track a call and find the address.. even if you're on a cell phone... believe me its not worth it...

its considered harrassment
 
Absolutely. It's called harassment.

I'll wager next time the police will show up if you dial the wrong number.
 
I'm not sure if that's true, I think if anything you'd get a fine but even then they would probably just tell you not to waste police time 'cause they have like murders and stuff. But that married woman prank is HILARIOUS. :D
 
She's right. Some prank calls are okay, but some go overboard. You're VERY lucky the woman didn't call the police, because if she did, they would be mad...
 
If the FCC finds you it's a federal offense and you can get into BIG trouble. We all have done it, but now days it's much easier to track a person down, even if you block the number. I think I'd stop making them, just to be safe. Wouldn't want you to go to jail or have a fine so big you won't get it paid off till your grandchildren are grown.
 
YES. Thats ILLEGAL.

But especially the call YOU did, if they got divorced, you could get in ALOT of trouble with the law.
