I was told that I should stay away from Trytophan foods. But then what am I suppose to eat?
And you didn't develop Serotonin Syndrome?

There are no dietary restrictions with Prozac.

Serotonin Syndrome is extremely rare. I have worked in mental health since 1987 and I have only heard of one person with Serotonin Syndrome out of several thousand patients over 22 years. That might even be more than a million people as far as I know.

I never heard of Tryptophan causing Serotonin Syndrome in combination with any drug. My wife is a dietitian in a mental hospital and I take Paxil (another SSRI like Prozac). If that was a concern, she would have told me by now.

Prozac is an SSRI, an doesn't react badly with nearly any food including meat. However Prozac may react badly with some supplements such as 5htp or st johns wort. Trytophan containing foods such as chicken, beef, eggs, bananas are fine to eat whilst on prozac.

It is MAOI antidepressants that react badly with many types of food, so be careful if you are prescribed one of these.

Yes, you can. I took Prozac and ate a regular diet- meat and all. try adding some fish and veggies to your diet too. If you WANT to eat more protein that is not animal based try beans- lots of variety and they are all around great for you.

Meats high in Trytophan are turkey chicken and pork, so use other meat such as beef and lamb.
Most people eat what they want on prozac without any problems, so don't worry about it.
