Can you culture Koji mold spores for Japanese Sake at home?

I once read that someone had been able to grow his own Koji mold spores for use in creating Sake. Since it should not be difficult to grow the mold the question is what would one grow it on for easy harvest later? Agar plates would work I suppose but that would be a small amount and harvesting it might be a pain. Any ideas?
