Okay picking up an older thread, but I wanted to update a few things for future reference.
I preordered the Nokia N97 beginning of last month, but unfortunately I don't want it anymore. Today tried to cancel and was told they do not have a capabilities to do so, and their manager said they don't have the system for cancellations. I was told the best way was to either refuse the shipment or dispute the charge on my credit card. I was actually told to dispute the charge! Well the issue is I don't want the phone anymore, so why would I want to dispute a charge? Also I ordered with overnight shipping, so if I refuse the package, I'm out $20.
Well I had to lie this time, but I called back, told them I lost my job and couldn't pay my bills anymore; manager let me explain my "situation" and somehow they cancelled my order.
So the moral of the story: They can cancel orders, but they choose not to and want to make it as hard as possible for customers to do so. That is simply poor business practice. I don't hate Nokia after this, but I certainly know that I should not order from their online store anymore.
So if you want to cancel your order, just tell them you can't afford to pay your bills. We are in a recession after all!
