Its my girlfriends birthday and we are trying to go camping somewhere on the california coast for a few days. I'm a veteran camper, i dont need a campsite, or anything besides the shit i bring and my car =p..Anyway, the question is have is...is it legal to just up and camp anywhere on the beach in california? I mean..somewhere remote, but not a "camp ground"...maybe somewhere we could hike to and camp?

Any ideas?

I've never done it my self, but have been down PCH..(101 highway) many times and have seen many people champing out along the way. I'm sure it must be legal

i dont see why not, i live in nor cal and ive never really heard of any laws that restrict this unless your inside some kind of city limit. but out in the middle of nowhere as long as you dont break any laws about littering and the sort, you should be fine. btw its really cold in northern cali on the ocean, so pack warm clothing- yes even in the summertime!
