Can you buy then phone off the internet then take it to t mobile to unlock?

Do you have to be in the t-mobile plan to have t-mobile unlock for you?

omg that is exactly what i'm doing! im getting a smart phone off of the internet and then getting it unlocked so i can use a sim card for a tmobile pre-paid plan. and the answer to both of your questions are yes. good luck!!
