Can you bid on your own item on ebay?

I know it's illegal and called shill/dummy bidding. Is it only illegal when you go on another account and bid? Because right now I'm on the page with my listed item for sale, and Ebay s letting me click on 'place bid' and 'buy it now'.

Does this literally mean I can buy my own item or place a bid on it. That seems to revoke the shill bidding rules, but yeah, if its not allowed why is it so easy to do?

*so tempted to hit that place bid/buy it now button*

No, you must not be logged in to your account. If you click on the bid or buy it now it will require you to log in and you won't be able to actually bid after that.
