Can you be committed with Adultery in the Navy if the baby was concieved

before you enlisted (boot camp)? I have a friend that got pregnant by a man who was married. Please do not judge her, just give an honest response to the question.
The baby was concieved before he left for bootcamp (the week before), and now they are confused on if the father would get committed for adultery becuase he is now in the Navy. The wife has accepted the situation and not looking to file any charges against him, but they are clear that the Navy can take matters into their own hands.
My friend wants him to sign the birth certificate and give the child his medical benefits. Which he is all up for, but still, they all are confused on if he can get into trouble for having a child outside of his marriage before he joined the Navy. Can anyone tell me what I can let her know about the consequences of this? REMEMBER - the baby was concieved before he joined the Navy.

the military will not prosecute adultery unless in conjunction with other charges.

the Navy WILL require not only a paternity test, but also a court order requiring him to pay child support and enroll the child into DEERS before the child will be entitled to anything. the mother will get NOTHING.

that being said It can and probably will negatively impact his career..
 
DNA that is all I can say.

If he is the father then he will have to pay child support...

Right now I wouldn't worry about his career....worry about establishing paternity and getting what is best for the child.
 
He probably won't get into any trouble so long as his obligations to the child don't interfere with his performance. If your friend expects to receive child support and other benefits, she needs to get a court order that establishes his financial obligations. The Navy won't recognize the child for purposes of providing benefits until paternity is established.
