Can work/GM/employer take hours away if you worked them?

Where I work you get a slip at the end of the week that shows how many hours you worked and what will be on your check, I had 37 hours and when I got my check I was only paid for 34.

I went to ask what was up and the GM said that as long as we were in a recession they can take away as many hours as needed to save profit even if I worked them, they have done this to other people (and a LOT of people have quit lately)

I want to do something but I absolutely NEED this job and can't afford to loose it. A lot of people where I work are in the same position and take a lot of abuse/crap from the GM too. I feel sick just thinking about having to come back.
Ack! Sorry

I get paid by the hour.

That IS VERY illegal, you are to be paid the HOURS you worked. This is a labor law issue

However, are you salaried or hourly? If you are salaried, then they can take away hours, but it cannot affect your pay amount that you AGREED to in a contract.

Need more information, unfortunately but if you aren't paid for the hours you worked, AND have proof (ie via time card) and any subsequent communications (ie email) that says what your GM told you (that they could take away hours if they wanted to), then you can report your employer to the Department of Labor.
