i will be going to marine corps basic in a couple of weeks. i am an african american girl and i know that i will not have the time to fix my hair and make sure it "looks good" so i was wondering if i could wear my hair in cornrows when i arrive. i know girls' hair have to be a certain length and all but what are the requirements for cornrows. i would really love some input please. thanks so much

ex Marine here. one of the reasons, many reasons hair is worn short and neat is to gain a good fit on headgear that may have to be worn.its also low maintanance. once you get your permanent mos and billit it might be ok to have corn rows, but I dont advise it in basic.

Please don't do it. Find a style that can be kept to standard everyday. Short cut or put it up. But keep it straight. It's hard enough to be a female in the army so please don't make yourself a target. I don't see anything wrong with cornrows but not in that environment. Your hair don't have to look pretty everyday. but it got to look respectable just like you would look. Good luck with your journey.

yes, but they must be tight against the scalp( not free flowing) and they must end before the collar.
