Can we survive without welfare?

Welfare or more appropriately, Aid To Dependent Children, went out of existence more than 12 years ago when Congress and the Clinton administration signed into law the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act which limits benefits to 2 consecutive years and no more than 5 years over a lifetime.
 
I think there should be a one year and one child lifetime limit from the federal government. After that, the states can decide to continue it or not. It's one thing to help a person when they are down which I am all for. It's quite another to make them dependent on a life of poverty with no incentive to work out of it.
 
In Florida, my unemployment insurance is paid by my employer. I consider that part of my compensation just like my HC coverage. I would not think twice about using it if I had to.

With that said, I would want to flip burgers at Wendy's before I could suck in my self respect enough to file for unemployment. But that is just me.
 
I'm aware. In fact, I'm in the philanthropy business. More than 300 billion dollars every year are given to charity in the united states. quite a lot..
 
Such horseshit. There are so many federal and state alternative programs you can weasel into that the limitation is a joke.
 
Exactly. No need to have the government programs waste our dollars for forced "charity"
