Can we order tap water from restaurants in usa?

Can they refuse us? Does it look bad? I'll be visitting usa in december and heard a lot about the price of bottled water in restaurants. Thank you.

Well i really don't see why not, but personally i don't see why you'd want to drink water at all when you could be ordering so many better things like soda or alcohol.

water is free when you order it in a resturaunt. If you ask for bottled water they will bring you bottled water and charge you
If you just say "can I get a water" you will get a cup of it free of charge

They serve you tap water whether you like it or not.

They only serve you bottled if you specifically ask for it.

Water is free at restaurants. Just ask for water in a glass, not bottled.
