Well I wanna buy a Nokia N73 which is locked to 3 network..

If I do a firmware update on the phone will it unlock it also to use different SIM?

Isn't F/W update means the same as re-flashing or reformatting your CP to Nokia default.. So you will lose all the junk that service providers put on it.

Is it easy to unlock 3 network locked Nokia handsets?

Please need help here!!

No, flashing the firmware will NOT unlock the phone. It is next to impossible to unlock a 3 phone because of their unlocking policies requires the original phone owner to unlock and a large sum of money to 3 (upwards of 100 pounds).

So if the owner can easily unlock it...

Why can he just unlock it before sellling it.. For the convenience of the buyer.

Don't you think?

Because its not free .. Thats why its always cheaper to buy a locked phone than an unlocked phone (Especially phones locked to 3)

N73 is based on BB5 platform and it CAN'T be unlocked by 3rd party yet. Only your provider know the code. As for why?! Because the providers don't want you to! Many of them have been subsidizing the hardware cost. If you take the phone elsewhere and use it with other providers as well as selling it to some markets where you can make a profit. I believe there's a regulation in the UK that the provider must give you the code - for a fee (how much? It's another question) - after you sign up with them for certain time.

Hi, i was go to buy a free Sony-Ericsson k800i in Orange, but Vodafone has called me offering the n73 for 89?. So, does anybody know if we will be able to unlock the n73 soon? Because I've a dual-sim, so I need a free mobile.

What would you do if you were me?

Thanks a lot.

If I were qwapz, I'd demand a refund from the seller for fraudulent sale of an unusable merchandise and then buy myself a unlocked phone.

If I were you sauron, I'd get the one that works with my provider.

i bought an N70 on orange (uk) and got it unlocked for ?15 from orange, just call them and thye'll charge you ?15 by deducting it from your top up, or charging it to your monthly tarrif, or you can always pay by credit card, once you pay they'll text you or email you the unlock code within 5 days. They also unlock their newer models but for more....they definately do the n73 but you'll have to make them smile, which will cost you to the tune of ?50

See that's if you have Orange. If you don't and you buy a phone from them, you're pretty much out of luck. Also I'm assuming you are a good standing customer as well.

?50 is in excess of $95 (usd) , but in the UK, orange mostly offer the cheapest phones, at moment you can buy a white w810i for ?139, whereas other retailer still charge more than ?200, so sometimes you can understand why they charge so much for unlocking it. I've been with orange for 6 years now, and i cant find a single complaint against them.

Well, finally i decided to cointinue buying the k800i and now VOdafone offers me the n73 for 29?!!!!
But i'll buy the k800i because it's free.

thanks to all
