...(murder) case? Can they agree to a specific lump sum and the number, frequency, and amount of further payments? I mean specifically in Canada, but any answer about how such things are handled in the US are welcome.
I was thinking about a scenario in which someone was found guilty and was serving a long sentence, but the survivors of the victim do not wish to overburden the innocent persons associated with the guilty person. They may include dependents of the guilty person and those who jointly run a business with the guilty person.
