Can the war in Afghanistan be won?

The Taliban continue to strengthen as the population turns away from the Afghan government and increasingly resent foreign occupation.

How can this war possibly be won?

What would "peace" in Afghanistan even look like?

yes we can win if we leave politics out and let the generals do there thing
we allso have to stop being so pc war isn't fare

The Afghanistan war has become President Obama's now. Just as the 9/11 attack became President Bush's even though it wouldn't have happened if President Clinton hadn't let the leader go when they had the chance to take him.

And so it goes. Whoever's war it is, it is Americans who are losing their lives over there. I really wasn't for bringing the troops home at first, but now I think maybe this is just another war we can't win.

So sad none of our Presidents are able to lead anymore. It was predicted that this would be the way of it.

The purpose of the war was to defeat Al-Qaeda. Since then, the war's purpose has turned into nation building and establishing democracy. The truth is a country of backwards thinking tribal people cannot simply be handed democracy and use it efficiently. This new cause cannot be won, but if we went back to hunting down Al-Qaeda, we could win. I don't support a troop surge, but I do support air strikes and drone attacks on terrorist camps in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Somalia

No it can't.. they are different people than us.. we cannot force our ways on them.

The best we can hope for is some kind of understanding and lasting peace. However, they are terrorists so I don't know how you haggle with them.

We either need to go in there guns ablazing, and take over .. kind of like Japan... or get the hell out. There is no middle ground with people who hate you and want to kill you.

It is either kill or be killed.. as awful as that is.. that's the only way.
