Can the results on a pregnancy test change after time to a false result?

On the directions of a pregnancy test they tell you that after a certain amount of time (usually about 10 minutes) the results on a test are invalid. If you think you might be pregnant then you should get another test, read the directions carefully, and take it. If you are not having a period you should see a medical professional right away.

While throwing out trash, I noticed a pregnancy test I took about a month or so ago that was negative at the time is now showing a positive result. Is it possible to show a false positive after time?

It's not a "false positive," it's just an evaporation line. If you read the instructions on the package, every HPT gives a specific time frame in which you need to read it. If you read it after that time (usually 10 minutes) then the results are invalid as you may have evaporation lines. If the test was negative at the time you took it, then it is still negative.
