Can the military help with credit card debt?

First, thanks in advance for your responses and any information you can provide.

I am planning to join the Air Force soon, hopefully in the next couple of months depending on how long the enlistment process actually takes. Because of my job and the long hours I work I have been unable to speak with a recruiter as of yet, but I am going to schedule a meeting with one in the next few days.

I have quite a bit of credit card debt (~$8000) that I have accumulated over the past few years, and lately I have been concerned that my debt may in some way prevent me from going into the military. I would really hate that because I have a genuine desire to serve my country. I've thought about enlisting ever since high school (I'm 24), and I've finally decided to do it.

Now, if my debt does not prevent me from enlisting, I am also curious if the military could help me pay it off. I was thinking I could use my enlistment bonus, however much it will be, to help pay off my credit cards. I really don't know what options are available through the military, which is why I am going to talk to my local recruiter, but I was curious if I could find any information here first.

Again, thanks for any info you can give me.

Your debt will hinder your acceptance. You will be told to clear the debt and then enlist. Suggest if you want to join then see the recruiter, sell everything you own and pay off your debt
