rent is not paid? i live in westchester and the rent here is very high. my mom has been having some problem financially so she is two monts behind. she didnt pay the two month rent because she thought that the security deposit we made when signing the lease would be able to cover the two months before we move to another apartment.
the landlord told me that the security deposit is for fixing the apartment and will return it if the apartment is not trashed.
so i was wondering, do most landlords give you the security deposit after the tenants move?
my mom is thinking that they wont because the apartment we used to live in didnt give us the security deposit.
and the landlord is saying that he would bring us to court if the rent isnt paid which i understand.
but this is really stressing me out so please help.
im thinking my mom is wrong and we should pay the past rent and just do what the landlord says...but shes so stubborn...
