Can the army get my roommate out of a lease?

Me and my roommate moved into an apartment about 3 months ago, and now he has deided to join the army. We have agreed to each pay half the rent every month. he is telling me now that the army is getting him out of the lease and that they are going to pay his half. he has been known to lie to get himself out of things like this though. will the army pay his half or will i be stuck with paying everything that i cant afford by myself?
 
AFAIK, the only way to get out of a lease via military is when you come down on deployment orders. The military most likely will not pay his side of the rent.
 
He can get out of the lease with orders from the military....that's a federal law. The military will NOT pay his share of the rent.
