Hi, Sorry for Such a Post....

I don't know much about Nokia... so everything is new to me.. I'm planning on getting a N73 and was wondering if its possible to upgrade the OS of the N73 to Symbian OS v9.2, S60 rel. 3.1 or higher. Have anyone tryed this..?

if you can't install the OS i'll might wait for a Symbian OS v9.2, S60 rel. 3.1 phone with a 3.2+ cam.

sorry for any spelling error...

The only way to upgrade would be if Nokia developped a firmware for the N73 that would be FP1

However, Nokia never ever made a firmware that would upgrade any phone to a higher symbian OS version.

You can't go wrong either way. There are only a few minor differences between the two. FP1/9.2 has adjustable font sizes, a consolidated Web browser instead of both a Web and Services browser, and some changes to the format of the settings menu. I may've left some things out, but it doesn't matter. You'll love the N73 and it'll still be an excellent phone for probably another 6 months to a year.

Another major difference between the two mentioned OS's is that the newer one is a lot faster, and I mean a lot, things open instantly and it has better memory management then the older one.

Just my 2 cents

The only thing that's going to make it *that* much faster is an increase in the speed of the processor. The OS itself cannot just magically go faster.

So how can you explain that increasing the CPU speed by 60% makes the UI of the new symbian more than 200% faster, something that opens on the old one 2 seconds on the new symbian opens in a fraction of a second, almost instantly

At this point in the year, you might as well stick it out till Feature Pack 2, that's supposed to hit shelves on devices towards the end of the year. THAT'S got some improvements.

Well unless you provide us with some numbers it's impossible to say. The OS isn't even vastly different, it just has a feature pack included, so the chances it is responsible for such a huge increase in speed are highly unlikely. Just look at the N93. That does not feature Feature Pack 1 but does have to faster processor. The speed is very similar to the N95.

You're both right. . . Kinda.

I was going to mention it, but didn't think it was relevant at the time. Feature pack 1 is optimized to run new hardware such as the GPS and the 5 megapixel camera in the N95. This also means it's configured to run with a newer processor. The N95 is running the same faster processor as the N93, and combined with feature pack 1, it makes to be a pretty quick phone.

Allaboutsymbian.com has a spec sheet listing the differences in processors and clock speeds between all of the series 60 devices, if you'd be so curious to check it out.

I have both an N93 and N95 sitting right here and the N95 UI is much faster in terms of feel. Getting into "my own" is a real pain on the N93, but almost instant on the N95. I timed several application launches too and the N95 is a good deal faster in some things and a little faster in others.

I also like how it now shows you in the interface which folders have running programs and which programs are running in the UI.

If you miss 6230-like UI speed, the new FP is really nice.

abit but thanks for all the info...

i'll decide in the next few weeks if i should get the N73...

btw: i've saw some video of the speed of N73
