Can stock RK handle bars be adjusted?

I have been a bagger rider for about 3 hours now, yep picked up the new 2011 RK FLHR (here in Australia all our tourers for MY 2011 are 103 cubic inch only).

My problem is that the stock handle bars seem to be too far forward, is there anyway to bring them back (very slightly). On my previous FLSTF and FXFD it was a matter of loosening the handle bar clamp and finding the desired angle for the bar............how do you do this with the FLHR?

Other then this small annoyance (and the quiet pipes) the cycle is faultless..........I think this could be the beginning of a fine relationship...........

G'day from accross the ditch!

You can adjust them by carefully prizing off the metalic plastic cover on top of the handlebar yoke cover. Underneath are 2 fasteners that when slackened will allow rotation of the bar.
You probably won't gain much though (dependant on how they were set at stock). If you really have to reach for the bars then you may want to consider changing them.
I put a set of heritage type bars made for the road king on mine and am pleased with the ergonomics now. Less than $100 and no new cables required.

Hope this helps.

I put these bars on my 09 P/N 56902-08 $79.00 US they worked out just great, no wire or cable changes required. However do get a service manual and follow the instruction on remove/install handlebars.

I am unsure of the New bikes but my '03 has to have the headlamp retainer removed to access the fasteners for the nacelle rib, that and pry up to remove (carefully) the plastic fork lock ring with the positions on it to access the two screws beneath it. From there there are 4 allen head capscrews in the retainer blocks but there is little rotation to aid in length of reach.

There is a solid or one piece handlebar retainer block for the older bikes to add stiffness for after market bars, I have yet to see what is under the cover on the 2009 and newer bikes.
