Can someone tell me what kind of pain to expect from a discogram?

You poor guy.....That is probably going to be me the night before I have this done. I am trying so very hard to relax about it. I am glad that it is over for you and you got answers, I know I will have answers as well. Good luck with whatever you decide to do from here.....

Pooby.....I am having sedation, I am just not sure what the sedation is. I have had several prcedures done. I did have ESI also and those were not bad at all. At most I would say, it is discomfort, not really painful to me. I am in pain daily.....I have tried everything i know to try. I am to the point I am having to take pain med. to make it through the day and that is exactly what I was trying to avoid. So...what does a person with this problem so? Ive had ESI, another kind of nerve block and I had RF Ablation and nothing has helped or if it has, it was short lived. I am very depressed and frustrated. I have 2 disc that are showing up on the MRI as problems. I also have tears in the lining of the disc and and impinged nerve ? Also arthritis. So, not sure exactly where the pain is coming from. My neurosurgeon showed me every detail on the MRI and I cannot exactly remeraber what he said about it all...but he showed me a place that was collapsed? And showed the tears and the impinged nerve? He is suggesting a fusion, by going through the front and use a cage and hardware. I didnot want to have a fusion. :( He did say either a fusion or spinal stimulator? I am just at wits end with this. Tired of hurting all the time....

Good morning,I havent heard of the surgery they are going to perform on you.I have problems with my L-4,L-5, and S-1,I have had 2 surgerys and Im no better.I have problems that I didnt have before.Most of the people I know who have had sugery have not gotten any better.I can tell you this,after I had my 2nd surgery and the doctor came to release me,I ask for pain meRAB,he said I shouldve been feeling better,told him I wasnt and that my right foot and leg was nurab,he wrote me a script and said he didnt no what caused that because I shouldve began to feel better.Did he give you a percentage rate,like you should feel 80% better?I wish I wouldve never had surgery.Good luck on what you decide.Your doctor should discuss the pain you will afterwarRAB,Im assuming from what I was told you should feel better and not worse.
 
Lynn, I agree with Bigblue. I was curious before having mine done and I ended up reading all the horror stories and chickened out several times and when I did go in I was so scared I almost passed out. Most folks are sedated and they only wake you for a moment and ask you questions about the pain your feeling. The procedure does hurt....but you already know that...try not to focus on it if at all possible. It will be over and your doctors will be able to better treat your pain. My doc told me if I could make it through the discogram...surgery should be a walk in the park. Though I doubt it. Try to look on the bright side....and remeraber sometimes to much info is not always a good thing. ;) Best wishes!
 
Lynn.....If your getting the sedation you will be doing good...I had it and felt like a table cloth after they gave it to me....I literally melted into the table and was just coherent enough to feel the pain and it went away as quick as it came....I over worried the whole event....It will be fine......I was more concerned with them getting the needle to the spine then I was them touching the sore spots...I never felt them doing it at all!.....they even used the smaller IV vs the huge one.....its a walk in the park......but the park has a bee.;)

They gave me pain meRAB afterwarRAB.....and I took some of it to make sure I got good sleep.....but Im not so sure I even needed it.

They will make sure your okay! This test is soooo worth what your having to deal with to get it.
