Can someone help me fix my clothes dryer?

I have a GE Profile dryer. its about 7 yrs old. It has always run great. All of a sudden while it was drying a load of clothes i opened it to check the load . when i closed the door and attempted to restart it it would not start. the light is still on so i know that its getting power and i have checked the pin in the door to make sure the door is shut. and it still does not work. Can anyone give me any ideas to help me fix it? i dont have money for a new dryer...your advice would be a great help! thanks
