Hi i am planning to buy the phone but i want the owners of this phone to convince me that this is the right phone i have a nokia n73 right now but i m tired of the poor quality build so want to sell it off and get my self a decent nokia e50 and i have read some good reviews about this phone but still i want to ask the people who own this phone to tell me that this is worth every penny that i will be spending on it

Thanks

I used a N73 until I got my E50. I am really happy that I bought the E50. The main reason I got the N73 was the camera (and Symbian). The camera on the N73 was way to slow so I stopped using that feature. I wanted to try something new so I ordered the E50. It was smaller than I expected, and except for the camera and 3G in N73, it has (almost) all the same features. So all in all, you get most of the same features in a lot smaller wrapping.

"Right phone".....okay, but.......for what?

Is you only criterion for a smartphone build quality? What exactly do you use the phone for?

I have an E50 for many reasons, but those might not be the same needs as yours. I can tell you even that my wife has an N73 and she is desperate to get a hold of my E50, but still, I know her needs in a phone and I dont know yours.

You would best off if you started by running offlist of the major applications you use whether built in eg camera or contacts or 3rd party software and then prioritize those as well as issues such as battery life and weight, screens ize, and of course price.

For example, mapping software is doable on the E50 - that is personally my 2nd biggest use of it after PIM - but for some people the screen size/font size on the E50 may be too small for their eyes and they would prefer the N73 for maps.

SO you need to think through what your priorities and needs are first, the communicate those to people here. Otherwise you will get a popularity contest result, instead of a targeted recommendation.

for me too, i am about to buy the e50, for the e50 owners is the phone earpiece volumne loud and does it has the popping sound while you talking on your phone

vikramdhani,

I think skagen has pointed out the things I want to tell. To convince you... I think you need to convince yourself to leave all the bell whistles offered by the N73 behind first. I like it a lot, except the power button (it does not offer a good tactile feedback and the rubber that cover the button can be worn in time) and the relatively smaller font size (due to the fact it has a smaller physical screen compares to other Series 60 models). When I do not need all the optional items like WiFi, 3G, 3MP camera, FM radio, full keyboard that comes with many other models and I want a slim, low-profile, sturdy cellphone for business trips, E50 fits my bill.

Also, you can read some reviews out there...

Steve Punter... very straight-forward and focused on the fundamentals of a phone: http://www.arcx.com/sites/Nokia%20E50.htm

Mobile-Review... more technical but English translation sometimes is not as fluent as the Russian original: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-e50-en.shtml

It's not our money so you better convince yourself. And if you need to convice yourself to buy the E50 than you may not want it in the first place.

Here goes
I am coming from a SE P910a so I am somewhat familiar with Symbian
E50 pros
-Small light and sleek
-RF is very good
-Speakerphone is excellent
-Very simple to learn and use
-Lots of memory
-emailing is very easy to use
-Camera is above average but only when u have enough light
-Lots of S60 apps

E50 cons
-Small screen and fonts (but I wear glasses anyway so its fine for me)

There is no popping noise and yes the speakerphone is loud enough
IMHO this is a great phone.....

I considered buying E50 at one point, but i just couldn't get over its small screen. I ended up buying E60 and couldn't be happier. My point is: if you can deal with small screen (it's significantly smaller than N73), i think that you will enjoy E50 very much. My $.02.

Before I bought my E50, I get to play around with my friend's N73 which was loaned to me for a couple days. Personally I like E50 better than N73, it fits better in the palm of my hand and very low-profile. The only thing that might be hard for you to deal with, you'll miss some feature in N73.

I find it a bit slow on contacts, but then that may be because I have too many and the same would occur on any symbian v3. I did not have a problem with the same database on my 7610. I am guessing it is the voice tagging that is slowing it down. The earpiece also tends to heat up sometimes. But otherwise, except for the small screen / fonts (mind you still legible) and if you do not want the other features, it is a good phone.

With the recent price drop, it seems a nice VFM phone also.

Which button do you have assigned as your contacts? Many people have the left soft key as the contacts button and there is a natural delay as that's the lock button. I never assign anything to that button that I want to access quickly. And how many contacts do you have? I have a ton and never noticed severe lag while opening them.
