Can somebody explain why the media is making such a big deal about the Jackson death?

It sure wasn't as big a deal when John Lennon was murdered.
And Jackson is hardly anywhere near the important figure to music that Lennon was
Jackson wasn't even good enough to shine Lennon's shoes
Comments?
 
The media and the higher ups are trying to distract us from everything else happening in the world right now that they don't want us to see clearly by using his death as an excuse.
