can some one explain to me why ford is doing better w/o "help" from the stimulus

Because Billy Ford knew great great granddaddy would spin so fast in his grave at socialization of the company that he'd produce an alternate energy source.

It is called capitalism, or in this case, knowing better than to get in bed with government, and taking the cuts necessary to stay away from that.

Ford didn't go bankrupt in the first place, so they are obviously doing better. I guess GM just sucks, they had too many bad models of cars and they wouldn't downsize.

They are doing *better*. They are still not doing well. The key is that they saw it coming AND did something about. They mortgaged pretty much everything they had and got enough cash to survive. Not to mention that they start early in developing away for SUV/Trucks model while GM didn't.

Ford really made a Focus a respectable choice when it comes to cars.
