The jet engine, the telephone, TV, antibiotics and converse all stars (lol - well think about the amount of people who wear them..)
 
In the beginning , probably wheels and fire, then non animal power to run machines, but I think the innovation that sparked the most progress is the ability to tell if a switch is on or off. This is the basis of the binary, hexadecimal number systems on which computers are based. This is definitely the information age (good or bad) and it is basically founded on whether a switch or setting is on or off.
