Can Seth MacFarlane and crew really not write for girls?

I like how this post implies there are no shows, except for Futurama, that're written for this nebulous nerdy audience and thus Futurama's quality in relation to ANYTHING is instantly null and void.

I don't really hate Family Guy at all (it's lazily written sketch comedy that barely isn't incoherent, but there's nothing WRONG with that and I find it amusing), but come on man. This isn't even making a point. This is just creating absurd standards that defend a creative work from criticism for no reason at all.

"You can't say Futurama is better than Family Guy, Futurama is for smart people!"
 
Wow, way to overreact to a statement I probably could have worded a little better. I'm not implying what you think I implied. My response was meant to defend both shows. Comparing them to each other does a disservice to both of them because they tend to shoot for different goals. I love both shows equally, but I hold them up to different sets of criteria.
 
Old comedy saying- Simpler is better but too simple is dumb.

IE: Family Guy's simple writing of women is done because it's a comedic series, and it's easier to facilitate the jokes that way. You can't compare something with an ongoing plot like Futurama to Family Guy's joke-a-minute style.
 
The female characters on Family Guy may not always be treated well, but it's not like the show is any fairer to African Americans, Jews, Asians, fat guys, children or the handicapped.
 
But is that really any better? All that means is that the show can't go for a few minutes without making a thinly-veiled remark on any minorities whatsoever.
 
Neither can South Park. Would you prefer they only target one minority? Besides, the point of the stereotype jokes is to show just how ridiculous they are in the first place.
 
Except when was the last time South Park did a rape joke? Besides, just because another show does it doesn't mean it's okay for FG to do it.


And can you specify how the show does this? Because while there is a difference between "jokes that target minorities for the sake of humor" and "jokes that satirize the idea of prejudice", I'm honestly not seeing any of the latter within the show.
 
They did a whole episode a couple of years back that was nothing but Indiana Jones being painfully raped and treated like an animal in the most graphic way possible for an animated TV-MA show...over and over and over again. Never saw Family Guy do anything like that.
 
Snooki just had one this season. Double standard?

Without turning this into a Family Guy vs South Park thread, as a woman I am not offended by the female jokes on either show, yet the ones on Family guy seem to be tamer than the ones on South Park. I may be a little biased toward Family Guy, but I watch both shows and see it like this: FG has a 14, SP has an M. The jokes reflect the ratings. Since both shows are made by and for men, I don't get too worked up about it.
 
Well that's not true I mean megs hated because your suppose to hate her not because he can't develope her or because he's lazy.Cousin oliver was crappy because he wasn't needed not because the writters didn't choose to improve him infact he was fine when guest starring.
 
No it didn't. From the VERY FIRST CUTAWAY GAG, it was not even remotely clever.

Pre-revival Family Guy wasn't as significantly better than most people say.
