Usually...most...if not all freeways/highways....have posted signs on the on ramps that tell you it is illegal to ride bicycles on major roads like highways/freeways.
The signs usually read....(at least where I live)...say that pedestrians, bicycles and horses...are prohibited from travel on high speed roads like highways/freeways..interstates. or turnpikes....whatever you want to call them.
