I think to some the "redneck" moniker will be there for a long time in reference to NASCAR. The good news is those that think this way are consistently becoming a smaller group. This is not a regional sport any longer. Some of the most recognizable drivers today don't bring an image of a beer-chugging, tooth missing, tobacco chewing greaseball to mind. Johnson, Gordon, Earnhardt, Kahne & Stewart, to name a few, present themselves very professionally. And who in any sport has more class than Mark Martin?
NASCAR also has a lot of international flair. Successful drivers like Juan Montoya & Marcos Ambrose & Patrick Carpantier will definitely help with this process. Some people will continue to see NASCAR as a "redneck" sport, but their numbers a thankfully dwindling.
