can my set top box blow my tv screen?

I have an ntl set top box and a 32" Hitachi tv.
The picture on the TV has gone but the sound is still there.
Nothing works on the TV now, Playstation,WII, DVD etc.
I temporarily replaced the TV with a portable 14".
Two days later that went too, no sound nothing left.
Could the Set top be the cause?
