Can my pekingese do its business in a litterbox?

I was thinking that it would be easier if it used a litter box with sand instead of doing it outside. this way it would be able to go when ever it wants without making accidents or holding it. If litter boxes dont work then how do i potty train it with pee pads? but wait, arent those just for pee? what about #2? my peke is only 3 months old, what is a better way to potty train it other then it doing it outside?

No Pee pads are not just for pee hun...they catch whatever is put on them...as far as training to go on them idk mine just kinda did it on it but not every time...they have some type of scent to them that is supposed to make them go on it! To me pee pads and litter boxes is the lazy way out (no offense) and also alot harder to train on...its alot easier for a dog to know to go outside then to know to go on this little white square but it all depends on how you train also. Pee pads also tend to get expensive! Do you really wanna buy those every week for the rest of the dogs life? I tried it and didn't like it...I'd rather just walk the dog...then it can also exercise!

Hope this helps

Yes you can train a pup to use a litter box if that is what you want to do. I would suggest crate training your pup. Please DO NOT HIT your dog in any kind of way (like the first person said) and please do NOT start using the pee pads. That is a very bad habit to start and even harder to break. Please check into the crate training. It is also for your pups safety when you are not at home.

I would just do it out side to be honest. Cats dig and somewhat cover their mess with litter when they are done, a dog would most likely just leave it sitting at the top if you could persuade it to go in a litter box to start with. Pee pads are for pee but a dog can poop on it too, just huck it out when its soiled and put down a new one. To potty train a puppy just try to get it going outside ever...4 hours or so on a leash and keep it out there untill it does its business, even if that means waiting for 10-20+ mins, praise it after its done so. if you catch it doing its business inside, clap your hands and try to get it to stop or lift it onto the pee pad(which should be by the door) ...that's how we did it with the five or so dogs we've had growing up, only thing i must stress is DO NOT rub your dogs nose in an accident and yell at and or hit it, it scares them and makes the potty training process last longer

They now make dog litter trays for small breed dogs. I've seen them at Petsmart. The instructions in the box will more than likely give training tips.

In theory it is possible to teach a dog to use a litterbox. I have never heard of it, but if you can teach a cat to use and flush the toilet, then why not a dog in a littlerbox?

My only worry is that seeing as a pekingese is a long hair dog, would it get clumped in her fur?? that could cause some rather nasty issues.

As far as training goes, I suppose you would train the dog just the same way you would train one to go outside, only using the littler box area instead of outside.

yes you can train it to use a litter box
just teach it to learn how to use the litter box, like when it doesnt go in the litter box, tell it no(maybe hit it on the nose) and point to the litter box
