Can my laptop even connect to the TV?

I have an ATI Radeon X1200 graphics card, and i was going to buy a VGA to s-video adapter to hook up my laptop to the TV, but i am not even sure if my computer can even put out the image onto to television. Am i going to have to get some kind of converter to make this work?
