My husband wants to stay here that is why he has been fighting for the past six months, besides his life being in danger. He is from El Salvador, and a few months ago, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I have gone through chemotherapy and other treatments, but the doctors said that the cancer has spread. We have a 16 month old together. Is there anything that can be done in order to keep him here. If he has no choice but to leave, I will have to go with him , I do not want our family to be apart, but my husband is concerned because they are not able to care for me in El Salvador. Even if I was well, I cannot get a job there, I don't know the language. He has no family there, they are all in the US. He came here at the age of 15, he went to school here. He is basically Amereicanized. And word got out the he may be deported and people are looking for him so that if he goes, his life is in danger. He is a marked man. No he was never in a gang but because he refused to join, and because he helped someone that they tried to initiate(they attacked his friend) and he defended him, he is marked. We don't know what else to do. If he is deported and I should not survive because of the disease, what will happen to my son? I would rather for our son to be taken care of by my husband. This whole situation is making it worse for me. I am in and out of the hospital and I am getting worse and worse. I cannot work as of right now,I have been on medical leave indefinitely, I don't know what else to do. Is there a way to get him to stay or should he just sign? He doesn't want to be held by ICE anymore, it has been almost 6 months. Thanks!
He was basically picked up for not having ID, he was walking home after drinking, and that is when everything happened. They ran his fingerprints and decided to put a hold on him. I am upset with him because of it, but what can I do? It is done now. When he first arrived here, he was approved for TPS and applied for a social and was able to get a license and to work. A few years after that, his mother petitioned for him to get a green card. He was approved in 1999-2000, but for some reason, he never received his card. He assumed that because of that he was ok but that is not the case. It's not like he stayed illegally forever. He went through the proper channels, but we don't have money to hire a lawyer because of my situation. It is tough, we don't know what else to do.
I live in the Washington DC area, we did get a hold of a volunteer group, but they haven't given us any help. They gave us a list of immigrant attorneys, but they want thousands and thousands of dollars, and we can't afford it. The last lawyer we had didn't file any paperwork, he was of no help basically. Any ideas would be great.
