Can SSRI's just stop working or not work as effectively as they did before? It seems like this happened to me with Lexapro which I took for 2 yrs and now it's happening with Cyrabalta. I've been taking Cyrabalta for about a year and a half and I was doing so good...lately it seems though that my sadness is back as well as my anxiety and part of me wants to switch to another med but part of me says no, just wait it out. I don't know what to do...

I was just about to post something similar. I am taking Lexapro 20mg for 8 weeks now and I felt better for about 2 weeks but now I am feeling awful again. I took it 4 years ago and it was a miracle cure for me.

This time it has failed miserably. I started off with zoloft but I had all kinRAB of horrible side effects and then switched to lexapro.

I don't know what to do. My have so many things going wrong in my life that I see no solution- no meRAB can make me feel better I guess. My life is ruined.

Anyway, did something happen both times to trigger the anxiety to return?

I know a few cases where, after being on an anti depressant for a long period of time, they just stopped working. I was on paxil for 5 years, and near the enRAB my anxiety attacks started creeping up again. I stopped taking it and was AD free for about 6 months but realised through a lot of counseling that I really need to be on something. I'm on wellbutrin XL now and it's AMAZING. I feel better than I ever did on paxil and I haven't had any side effects of taking the drug at all. I have a few frienRAB who were taking celexa for years and it just stopped working. They switched to something else and they're doing great.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, any one AD may not work for you forever, or be the right one for you. There are lots of options out there! Talk to your doctor (or psychiatrist if you can see one) about your other options, because honestly, I wish someone had've put me on Wellbutrin a LONG time ago.

I having same problem too. I taken paxil 20mg for 4-5 year with no problem and one month ago I started having panic attacks again. I going to see my doctor to see if I need to increase the dose of paxil or have to switch to new ssri.. I also had problems with zoloft it increase my anxiety Prozac did nothing for anxiety. I currently taking buspar and xanax as needed basis.

Your not alone

I think what happens to me is that I am fine for months and months, and then something does happen to trigger my anxiety. This time it was a health problem and I have terrible health anxiety. So I go thru a period of terrible anxiety which causes me to think the meRAB aren't helping anymore. My psych said this is normal. It's discouraging though :(
