Can kids use poles for fishing?

Hi there, I have been fishing around 9-10 times now but all with just a normal course fishing rod so I am quite a newbie to the whole fishing world. I will be getting around £300 reletively soon and since I'm enjoying fishing so much I fancy spending it on some upgraded kit! I'm 13 years of age and I'm quite interested in beginning pole fishing, but I don't know where to start! First of all, can kids use poles? I mean, they're big things, and can youngun's hold them without having to lift 10 kilo barbells for a week prior!
Secondly, what kind of stuff do I need to get started? Budget will be around £350-£400.
Finally, only if you can be bothered typing this! How do I pole fish? Any advise, tips, facts, guidelines would be much appreciated!

Oh, and I currently coarse fish - at Non Go By farm if anyone's heard of it. Carp, Catfish etc.
No, no - I mean pole fishing, I already course fish with a rod. By pole fishing I mean those big long telescopic rods that stretch out. Sorry if I phrased my whole question wrong but that's what I mean, hah.

why dont you try a whip first, i went pole fishing and loved it,, but after 10/15 times became very bored of it,,

so i wouldnt suggest spending so much on a pole right now.

get yourself a little whip about 2/4 meters for around £15/20 quid

and use tha, perfect starting position to pole fishing, they are very light easy to use, and you can buy ready made rigs from tackle shop,

rig is a line with wieghts and hook and float on they are about 2 quid

and they just slot onto your rig, and your ready to go,

obviously you will need to put a plummet on to get a very accurate depth (this is why people use poles as they are so accurate)

plummet your depth, and adjust your line accordingly, ideally you want to be 2/4" on the bottom, or 1ft off the bottm for best reluts,

give that a try, if you enjoy whip fishing, you may enjoy pole fishing,

in saying that i fish on the feeder,, which you fill with bait, and cast in,, and when your rod takes off you got a bite,,ok its a lazy way of fishin but i like it..

hope this helps
