Can Judges Overthrow A Guilty Verdict For Whatever Reason?

I know that if a jury reaches a guilty verdict that the judge can have it overturned in a criminal trial.

Are judges allowed to use their seat of power to release whomever they want. Like if they want to make some sort of statement or don't want to see a person convicted can they release whomever?

Unfortunately yes! The only way a judge can not overturn a verdict is when one judge concludes the final verdict with the words "With Extreme Prejudice," another judge can not overturn the case; unless HARD evidence is presented that the judge is committing fraud.
