Can it be my car audio amp?

Ok, I got 2 12" 1200W subs hooked to a 600W pyle amp. The question I have is, I have the crossover switched to bass. I haven't had a problem with the system for a long time but now I am getting distortion. Voices are getting through to the sub woofers. Could that be causing the distortion? And could it be that the built in crossover is failing? I know for a fact that the subs are not blown, at least they better not be! lol
