I recently picked up a friend's old bike and everything was so rusty that we had to angle grind the chain out of the bike to carry it around. The rear gears spins correctly as in if you turn it anticlockwise it won't turn the wheel. But it is quite rusty. I read around and thought that electrolysis is the best way of doing it. I can't take the gears out of the wheel because I don't have the specialized tool for doing that (it's a free wheel). So my question is whether electrolysis would work on the gears and whether it would kinda fuse the parts together in the process because I'll have to dip the whole thing in water with part of the wheel and cog. Thanks for any replies.
