Can I use a T-mobile contract phone with a T-moblie prepaid account?

Im not with T-mobile anymore but yesterday I found my Samsung Behold and I want to know if I can get a prepaid account and put it in my Behold. Its practically brand new I just need a new touch screen digitizer. By the way does anybody know how to put a new touch screen digitizer in a phone? I'll appreciate it..Thanks
