Can I use a Cingular IPhone w/out a data plan?

If you purchase your iPhone out right, no. The only way you have to have a data plan is if you get a discount on contract from AT&T. Because you're not in a contractual agreement with that phone, you are not required to buy all their services. However, the amount of data that is used by iPhone on a daily basis if you are not in a wifi area is astronomical. I suggest you do purchase the data plan so that you can utilize your iPhone to the full potential.

I recently bough an IPhone off Craigslist that was previously used with cingular.I currently just have a regular phone plan and am curious whether or not Ill be charged extra once I insert my sim. I also want to know if there could be any esn issues with this phone or if gsm doesnt do that, as it was a CL buy and relatively cheap. Thanks in advance,
