Can I switch Sprint phones without extending my contract?

I have a friend who will give me one of his phones. Both of us are on Sprint. If I change my phone over to one of his phones, will I have to extend my contract with Sprint? If I am requires to, is there any arguing I can do to prevent a contract extension. My dad does not want to have to stick with sprint in case he gets a better deal somewhere else.

No, you will not have to extend your contract, and don't let any idiot sales person try to tell you differently. The only reason for the contract, is because when you get a phone at the "discounted" price, the phone company is basically "loaning" you $150-$350 to buy the phone for less than what it costs the phone company to buy it.. Since they are not subsidizing the cost of your phone, you do not need to renew your contract.

They may or may not charge you a $25-$35 "activation fee", though.

Yes, there will be no conttract. I had gotten a new phone and 6-7 months later it broke so i went back to my previous phone. No probs! PS_ this can also be done online
