I have like 4 gb of music on my computer and its really making the computer move so slow. A friend recommended moving the music to an external drive just to get it off my computers hard drive but the ones he was talking about are really expensive. So, would say an 8 gb flash drive work the same way or do I have to have one of the other ones?
Well, I have a really cheap laptop and it doesnt have that much space to begin with. I didnt have a problem until, I installed itunes and added all that music.

4Gb of music on your hard drive is not what is making your computer slow down. That is just plain silly. Your friend that told you that is ignorant.

why not a USB memory stick? there are some not so expensive, and i think the reach 16GB of storage in this days

the Sony MEMORY STICK PRO DUO 16GB is about 70 dollars

A flash drive can hold any kind of files, but they tend to be smaller than external hard drives. If you have one big enough, it should work.

Using up disk space on your computer shouldn't make it slow unless you have less than the minimum free for the paging files. Moving your music to a flash drive should work though.

Unless your hard drive is full, the number of music files on your computer WILL NOT MAKE YOUR COMPUTER SLOWER.

And even if your hard drive is almost full, freeing-up just 4GB of space probably won't solve your problem.

There's another reason for you problem.

there's more to this than just a yes or no.
first, if you use a flash drive, you will need to redirect itunes, or any other media player to it and maybe every time you plug it in.
also, flash drives are a little slow for this if you use high rip rates.
installing a second large drive is and always has been my choice ever since the cost has come down.
however, adding ram and disabling the virtual memory and swap file can speed up your system, if you have enough ram, and then the space required for music is of no consequence to your speed.
